The Crime Control Department (CCD) Vehari arrested a notorious criminal after he was injured in a police encounter near the Education University on Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Babar alias Doli, was reportedly wanted in several cases, including robbery, vehicle theft and harassment of women.
A CCD team was on routine patrol near the university when they received a tip-off about the presence of Babar at Qalam Kitab Chowk.
Acting on the information, the police moved toward the location. On spotting the CCD team, the suspect allegedly attempted to open fire on officers with intent to kill. However, in his haste, he accidentally shot himself, sustaining an injury, and fell from his motorcycle. Police then overpowered and arrested him.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had a long criminal history, including cases of armed robbery, theft, and repeated incidents of harassment against women.
Police officials said he would often position himself outside schools and colleges, where he exposed himself and engaged in obscene acts, causing distress among female students.
A 30-bore pistol and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession at the scene.
District In-charge CCD Shahid Farooq said the department was determined to curb such crimes, especially those targeting women.
"Respecting women is the responsibility of every member of society," he stated.
