Taylor Swift’s name has once again surfaced in the high-profile legal fight between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
What began as a dispute tied to their collaboration on It Ends With Us has now drawn in one of the world’s biggest pop stars, but the court has made a decisive ruling on whether she will actually take the stand.
Judge Lewis Liman denied a last-minute request from Baldoni’s legal team to extend discovery so that Swift could be deposed.
In his ruling, he criticized the lawyers for waiting until the “eleventh hour” and failing to show diligence.
Baldoni’s attorneys had argued Swift agreed to testify but couldn’t appear before late October due to her album release schedule.
Swift’s team pushed back, clarifying that she never consented to a deposition and has “no material role” in the case. They said she would only appear if compelled by the court.
Lively’s lawyers accused Baldoni’s camp of trying to exploit Swift’s celebrity to fuel a media spectacle
. Court filings show they argued her limited involvement, licensing one song for the film’s soundtrack, had been exaggerated to draw attention.
While Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit against Lively and Ryan Reynolds has been dismissed, Lively’s sexual harassment and retaliation claims against Baldoni remain ongoing.
For now, though, the judge’s decision keeps Swift from being dragged further into the proceedings.
