James Gunn has praised Milly Alcock’s casting as Supergirl, calling it one of the strongest creative choices of his career.
The DC Studios co-chair and Superman: Man of Tomorrow director shared his thoughts during a recent interview, emphasizing how impressed he has been with Alcock’s performance in the upcoming DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
“Milly Alcock might be the best bit of casting I’ve done in my entire life. I think she’s absolutely stunning in the movie,” Gunn said, underlining the importance of her role in shaping the new DC slate.
Alcock, best known for her breakout performance in House of the Dragon, will make her DCU debut as Kara Zor-El in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set for release in 2026. The film will explore Supergirl’s story beyond Superman’s shadow and is adapted from Tom King’s acclaimed comic series of the same name. The project also stars Jason Momoa as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo, adding to speculation about future crossovers within Gunn’s interconnected DC Universe.
Gunn’s comments come as anticipation grows for the DCU’s next phase, following his announcement of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which will premiere in 2027. With Alcock joining the franchise, her portrayal of Supergirl is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding the cosmic side of DC storytelling.
By praising Alcock as “absolutely stunning,” Gunn has further fueled excitement around Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, making the film one of the most anticipated DC releases on the horizon.
