Updates on HBO Max's 'The Conjuring' TV series

Nancy Won will serve as showrunner for HBO Max's The Conjuring series, with Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires writing.

The upcoming Conjuring series in development at HBO Max has taken a significant step forward with the appointment of Nancy Won as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Sources confirmed exclusively to Variety that Won will lead the series, with Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires also attached as writers. HBO Max declined to provide further comment.

First reported in 2023, the Conjuring TV series will continue the storylines established in the popular Conjuring film franchise. While plot details remain largely under wraps, Peter Safran will continue as an executive producer, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster will produce the series, with Warner Bros. Television serving as the studio.

This announcement comes shortly after the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites, the latest installment in the film franchise. The fourth film has performed strongly at the box office, surpassing $194 million worldwide. The Conjuring franchise, which began in 2013, follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, as they tackle various supernatural cases. Along with the four core films, the franchise has also expanded with successful spin-offs like Annabelle and The Nun, which have collectively earned nearly $2.5 billion worldwide.

Nancy Won brings a wealth of experience to the project, with recent TV writing credits that include Sunny (Apple TV+), Tiny Beautiful Things and Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu), and the Marvel series Jessica Jones (Netflix). She has also worked on Jericho and Supernatural.

Cameron and Squires, both of whom have significant experience with Marvel projects, join Won as writers. Cameron has contributed to Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight, while Squires has written for WandaVision, Agatha All Along, Agent Elvis, and The Acolyte.

Won is represented by UTA, while Cameron and Squires are repped by Verve, Untitled, and CAA, among other agencies.
