RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Railways has taken notice of complaints regarding inadequate travel facilities, poor punctuality, and lack of amenities on railcars operating twice daily between Rawalpindi and Lahore. Following reports published in Daily Express and The Express Tribune, the department has decided to induct four newly furnished coaches equipped with modern facilities into the system starting October.

According to details, this scribe travelled on August 15 from Rawalpindi to Lahore by the 7am railcar in an AC Parlour coach, and later the same day returned by the 6pm Lahore–Rawalpindi service. His special reports, published in Daily Express Islamabad on August 17 and in The Express Tribune on August 18, highlighted serious shortcomings, including ineffective air-conditioning, uncomfortable seating, poor washroom conditions, damaged flooring, substandard meals, and lack of adherence to schedule.

Railway sources confirmed that from October, four newly furnished coaches with upgraded facilities will be added to the Rawalpindi–Lahore railcars to provide passengers with the quality of service that matches their ticket price.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways also confirmed the development, stating that the upgraded coaches are under preparation and will become operational in October. These new coaches will serve the two daily departures from Rawalpindi to Lahore and the two return trips from Lahore to Rawalpindi, ensuring passengers travel with improved comfort, reliable facilities, and strict schedule adherence.
