ISLAMABAD:

With the end of judicial vacations, the Supreme Court is set kick off its new judicial year today (Monday), with a packed schedule of conferences, inaugurations and major hearings.

The comprehensive bench formation shows a busy start to the judicial calendar, with critical cases, institutional reforms and administrative matters all set for consideration.

At 9:30am, a judicial conference will be held to formally inaugurate the new judicial year, where Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi will deliver an address. Later, at 10:30am, the CJ will inaugurate the court's facilitation centre.

From 11:30am to 1pm, a five-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear the long-pending super tax case. The bench has been tasked with hearing 1,250 petitions related to the controversial levy.

Later in the day, at 1pm, a full-court meeting will be convened under the chairmanship of CJ Afridi. The meeting will review proposals submitted by the Supreme Court Bar Association regarding the Supreme Court Rules 2025.

Meanwhile, the top court has also issued the cause list and judges' roster for next week. A total of nine benches have been constituted at the principal seat in Islamabad.

Bench No. 1 will be headed by CJ Afridi, who will sit on a two-member bench along with Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Shafi Siddiqui.
