Jennifer Aniston, one of Hollywood's most recognisable faces, shared the surprising secret that keeps her looking youthful at 56 and revealed why she has never attended the Met Gala, despite being invited to fashion's most high-profile evening.
Speaking to Glamour magazine for its September issue, Aniston said the Met Gala feels overwhelming compared to other red-carpet commitments. While she frequently attends the Golden Globes or the Emmy Awards, she explained that the pressure of preparing for the Met Gala has kept her away.
"It's the getting ready, the putting on the dress. I'm a 'jeans and flip-flops and tank top' kind of girl," the Friends star said. Although she enjoys dressing up, she added, the process of preparing for the Met Gala feels like too much of a "mental game."
Years of media scrutiny, she admitted, have made her feel self-conscious. "I even get a little anxious about public speaking, especially after years of having your words twisted and taken out of context," she explained.
Aniston also spoke about how she has worked to age gracefully over the years, crediting facials, laser treatments, and above all a positive outlook. She added that she takes her own advice seriously, focusing on a healthy diet and mindset to nourish what she calls her "one body."
"I think as far as ageing gracefully, I have an eternal fountain of optimism and positivity," Aniston said. "Call it youth if you want, but I think it all starts with how we love our bodies and love where we are," she added.
The actress was candid about maintaining her looks. "I'm not going to say I don't get the facials and the lasers and all that good stuff," she admitted. "I mean, I'm maintained. I'm not going to just go down and let these grey hairs take over. So, it's perspective - and also knowing that this is our one body."
