As the countdown to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 continues—with the beta weekend set for October 2—fans are eager to learn more about the maps and modes coming at launch. So far, Treyarch has confirmed that the game will include 16 core 6v6 maps on day one, including remakes of fan-favorites Hijacked, Express, and Raid.

However, some fans have voiced concern about the lack of mention regarding Strike maps—the smaller, tighter maps often associated with Faceoff and Gunfight modes. YouTuber TheXclusiveAce pointed this out, suggesting that the absence of these maps could mean those popular modes won’t be available at launch.

In response, Treyarch’s Design Director, Matt Scronce, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the concerns directly. According to Scronce, four of the 16 launch maps will be smaller-scale and will support Faceoff and Gunfight-style gameplay.

“Out of the 16 6v6 launch maps, 4 of those are smaller and support those modes, with new (+ some former faves) maps coming in post-launch,” Scronce wrote.

He also revealed that Treyarch made adjustments to ensure these smaller maps can support Scorestreaks, broadening their usability across more playlists.

“A change we’ve made for BO7 is to try and make sure those smaller maps can support Scorestreaks so they work for more playlists,” he explained.

Still, not all small maps will appear in every mode. Scronce clarified that while they aim for broader support, it depends largely on map design—particularly aerial access needed for Scorestreaks.

“Not necessarily all of them, but the goal is that more can be supported. We don’t want to force it either way if the team has a cool idea that can’t support Scorestreaks,” he added.

So while Faceoff and Gunfight fans may need to wait for the full picture post-launch, it’s clear Treyarch is aiming for a flexible approach that balances innovation with fan expectations.
