Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, was hit with an egg during a press conference at Dargal.
According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson, the women involved in the incident, reportedly affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), were taken into custody.
The incident took place after Aleema Khan did not respond to their questions.
Barrister Gohar Khan strongly condemned the egg attack on Aleema Khan, saying the PTI founder’s family should be provided foolproof security and urged the government to prevent such incidents.
While speaking with the media outside Adiala jail, journalists pressed Aleema Khan over alleged threats and online trolling of reporter Tayyab Baloch. Baloch said he was targeted after questioning Aleema on Tuesday about a tweet by journalist Ammar Solangi, who alleged she had purchased properties using donation funds. He claimed PTI’s social media teams then launched a campaign against him and that he also received threats.
“You did not answer the question, instead Tayyab Baloch was threatened. Is asking a question a crime? Do you only respond to questions of your choice?” journalists asked.
Aleema Khan denied issuing any threats and left the premises in her car after the confrontation.
Toshakhana Hearing
The hearing of Toshakhana 2.0 case against PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was adjourned on Friday until September 8, after the court recorded testimonies of two prosecution witnesses during the jail trial at Adiala.
The statements of Principal Appraiser Customs Sana Saeed and ADCG Headquarters Abdullah Khan were documented.
So far, testimonies of 13 witnesses have been recorded in the case, with cross-examination completed on 11 of them.
The PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were produced in the courtroom from jail. Their defence was led by Salman Safdar, Arshad Tabraiz, and Qousain Faisal Mufti, while FIA’s Special Public Prosecutors Zulfiqar Naqvi and Umair Majeed Malik appeared for the agency. The PTI founder’s two sisters, Aleema Khan and Dr Uzma, were also present.
The hearing was conducted by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand at Adiala during the trial.
The former prime minister, Imran Khan was arrested from his Lahore residence on August 5, 2023, after a trial court in Islamabad convicted him in the Toshakhana case.
Imran Khan was accused of misusing his 2018 to 2022 premiership to buy and sell gifts in state possession that were received during visits abroad and worth more than Rs140 million ($635,000).
Toshakhana 2.0 case
Last year, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb approved the bail plea against surety bonds of Rs1 million each, and directed him to appear before the trial court following his release.
According to the reference, Bushra Bibi received a Bulgari jewelry set—including a ring, bracelet, necklace, and earrings—during a visit to Saudi Arabia from May 7 to 10, 2021. Investigators allege that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi illegally retained the set.
On May 28, 2021, the total value of the jewelry was estimated at Rs75,661,600, including Rs56,496,000 for the necklace and Rs15,065,600 for the earrings. Under Toshakhana rules, the set should have been declared at Rs35,765,800 after a 50 percent payment.
The NAB reference alleges the set was undervalued, causing a loss of Rs32,851,300 to the national exchequer.
Toshakhana fake receipts case
Former prime minister and Bushra Bibi were booked in a fraud case at Islamabad's Kohsar Police Station for allegedly producing fake receipts related to the sale of state gifts..
According to the FIR, the accused are alleged to have submitted counterfeit receipts to facilitate the buying and selling of Toshakhana gifts, using a forged signature for the purported transaction.
According to the complaint, filed by a local watch dealer, the accused allegedly used his shop’s forged letterhead to generate false invoices for Toshakhana gifts.
“The accused attempted to damage the reputation of my business by generating fake invoices,” the complainant stated in the FIR.
The case comes against the backdrop of allegations that Imran Khan failed to disclose details of Toshakhana gifts retained during his tenure as prime minister.
