Mother throws infant into canal

A woman distressed over a domestic dispute threw her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter into a canal in Batala Colony.

Passers-by rescued the child and shifted her to a hospital with the help of rescue workers.

Police also reached the spot and launched an investigation.

According to sources, Mehwish, 18-year-old wife of Zahid Iqbal, a resident of Nawab Town in the Batala Colony area, had a quarrel with her sister at home. Upset by the dispute, Mehwish threw her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Jannat Fatima into the Rakh Branch Canal.

Local residents jumped into the canal and rescued the child. In the meantime, Rescue 1122 teams also reached the spot, and shifted the baby to the hospital.

Upon receiving information about the 8ncident, Batala Colony SHO Junaid Nazir Gujar and other police officers reached the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy and a man committed suicide due to domestic disputes and unemployment.

Police handed over the bodies to the families after completing legal formalities.

In the Factory Area, 25-year-old Muhammad Shakeel, distressed over unemployment, hanged himself. When his family saw his body, they informed the police. The area SHO along with other officers reached the spot and handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities.
