Gege Akutami is returning to the world of Jujutsu Kaisen with a newly announced spin-off manga titled Mimojuro. The series will debut on September 8 2025 in Weekly Shonen Jump and is set to run for six months, collected into three volumes.
The announcement comes less than a year after Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in September 2024, ending one of the most successful runs in modern Shonen Jump history.
While the new series is a spin-off, Akutami clarified that it is not a direct continuation but rather a parallel exploration of the universe. This approach leaves room for different eras, sorcerers, and storylines to be developed while retaining the series’ established themes.
Mimojuro will be illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, known for Cipher Academy. The debut chapter will span 54 pages, including colour spreads, in line with typical Jump launch formats. The title has already sparked speculation, with some readers suggesting “-juro” references Japanese naming traditions, while others see potential symbolic meaning.
Fans have begun to speculate about what the story could cover. Some anticipate a focus on future generations of sorcerers, while others expect the series to expand on unresolved threads from Jujutsu Kaisen.
Akutami has previously noted his interest in shorter works, with Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School (later collected as Jujutsu Kaisen 0) serving as an example of a compact but impactful narrative.
Industry sources have described Mimojuro as “experimental,” suggesting that the series may diverge stylistically from Akutami’s earlier work.
Online, fans have expressed both excitement and curiosity, with theories ranging from new central characters to returning figures from the main storyline.
With its limited run and experimental direction, Mimojuro is positioned as a unique addition to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, offering readers a fresh perspective while keeping ties to the original series.
