Hollow Knight tops Steam Deck charts in August as Silksong hype builds
Valve has confirmed that Hollow Knight was the most-played game on Steam Deck in August, proving that the beloved indie title still commands strong attention years after its initial release. Its resurgence comes as excitement continues to build for the highly anticipated sequel, Silksong.
Silksong, developed by Team Cherry, is set to launch on September 4. The sequel has been in development for years, with fans eagerly awaiting the chance to step into the shoes of Hornet and explore a brand-new world packed with enhanced movement and combat mechanics.
Interest in Hollow Knight surged following the reveal of Silksong’s release date. The original game saw a massive spike in players, jumping to over 20,000 active users within days. According to Steam Charts, that number soared to more than 71,000 by September 1.
Originally announced in 2019, Silksong began as downloadable content before evolving into a full-fledged sequel. Team Cherry maintained a long silence during its development—much to the frustration of fans—but recently explained the delay. In an August interview, the developers said the extended timeline was due to their constant urge to add “cool stuff” to the game.
With Silksong just around the corner, Hollow Knight’s renewed popularity on Steam Deck signals that players are more than ready to return to the hauntingly beautiful world Team Cherry created.
