Tom Holland stars in Never Stop Playing, a new LEGO short film blending live-action and animation to promote the importance of play. Commissioned by the LEGO Group, the two-minute piece highlights how children are feeling increasingly pressured to grow up too fast — and encourages both kids and adults to hold onto creativity and fun.

The short features Holland rapidly transforming into various characters — from a space marine and a soccer star to an old man, toddler, LEGO minifigure, and more. Each version of Holland rediscovers the value of play, reinforcing LEGO’s message that creativity and imagination have no age limit.

Speaking with IGN, Holland shared his personal connection to the theme. “I have ADHD and I’m dyslexic, so sometimes a blank canvas can be intimidating,” he said. “LEGO forces you to think creatively — inside and outside the instruction manual. It promotes healthy creativity.”

Holland also reflected on his lifelong love of LEGO, recalling how he and his brothers would compete to tidy their rooms creatively using LEGO displays — often to get out of washing dishes. His brothers Harry and Sam even make cameos in the short, something Holland says helped seal the deal for his involvement. “LEGO offered us something we could do together, which doesn’t happen every day.”

Harry and Sam shared their own fond LEGO memories, especially the co-op video games like LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones, which they say brought them together (and sparked plenty of sibling rivalry).

Holland also reminisced about building the LEGO Death Star with Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Jacob Batalon. The project, tied to the film’s now-iconic scene, became a bonding moment during the early days of their Marvel journey.

“Playtime” now looks a bit different for Holland — paddle tennis, golf, and online chess with his brother — but his connection to LEGO, and its power to inspire joy and creativity, clearly remains strong.
