Interior design influencer and content creator Jess Hurrell has died at the age of 42, following an eight-year battle with cancer. Her family confirmed the news via her official Instagram account on Saturday, August 30, sharing that she had passed away the previous Friday.
Based in London, Hurrell gained a devoted following of over 94,000 on Instagram through her lifestyle and home decor content, often sharing personal insights, family moments, and interior design transformations. She was also the founder of the popular blog Gold Is A Neutral.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, her family wrote: “Her positive energy was infectious and her family and friends loved her dearly... Most people didn’t even know Jess was carrying this around with her, as she always skipped, smiled and powered through life.” The tribute included touching images from various stages of her life, including her wedding, family outings, and time with her children.
Hurrell is survived by her husband David, whom she married in 2011 after an 11-year relationship, as well as their two children, Rafferty and Nellie. David shared an emotional message marking what would have been their 14th wedding anniversary, writing: “Happy anniversary darling. Can’t believe we didn’t make it to 14 but I’ve had the most incredible 25 years and am blessed to have met you. Sleep tight xxx.”
Before becoming a full-time content creator, Hurrell worked as a showbiz journalist for a national newspaper. On her blog, she reflected on leaving behind celebrity interviews and red carpets to raise her family and pursue her passion for interiors.
Tributes from fans and fellow influencers have flooded social media, describing Hurrell as “inspirational,” “the most special of souls,” and someone who brought “light, beauty, and fun” to every space she entered.
