BTS’ Jungkook found himself at the center of a heated online discussion after fans urged him to go to sleep during his birthday livestream on Weverse, sparking backlash among ARMYs who argued the singer should not be told what to do.
The livestream, which took place on September 1, 2025, began around midnight and extended for over an hour as Jungkook celebrated his birthday by reading fan comments, answering questions, and singing karaoke. Some viewers, however, repeatedly commented that the idol should rest, pointing to the late hour.
Jungkook, 27, acknowledged the remarks but reassured fans that he chose to stay live because he enjoyed spending time with them. “Although I’m sleepy, I’m here because I want to. It feels like we’re together, and it feels good, doesn’t it?” he said, translated from Korean.
Despite his reassurances, comments telling him to “go to sleep” continued, which led many ARMYs to express frustration on social media. Fans argued that Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, is an adult capable of managing his own schedule. “Stop telling him what to do,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with others describing such remarks as “rude” and “embarrassing.”
I just don't get why some tell Jungkook (or any member) what to do on live. He’s not forcing you to watch. He might be tired too but still shared his bday with us - shouldn’t we just be happy for that instead of making him feel bad? If you’re sleepy or busy, log off. Simple. pic.twitter.com/JHuacPwHvo

This moment reignited broader discussions within the fandom about boundaries and respecting idols’ autonomy during livestreams.
Outside of group activities, Jungkook has built a successful solo career with hits such as Seven and 3D, as well as his debut album Golden. He recently completed his military service alongside fellow member Jimin and is preparing with BTS for their highly anticipated 2026 comeback.
