The Neighbourhood have officially announced the end of their hiatus, marking their return to music with the reinstatement of drummer Brandon Fried.

The group first took a break in November 2021 after a decade together. In 2022, Fried was removed from the band following accusations from María Zardoya of The Marías, who said he groped her in a bar, describing the incident as one of the most uncomfortable experiences of her life.

At the time, Zardoya posted: “i was at a bar last night, and i was groped under the table by brandon fried, the drummer of the neighbourhood:. She concluded her statement by urging the group to replace him

Fried publicly admitted responsibility, writing that his “actions were inexcusable and intolerable” and acknowledging his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, for which he sought treatment.

The Neighbourhood addressed the matter in their new Instagram statement, explaining that Fried’s absence was necessary while he focused on recovery.

The groupalso  revealed they reunited in the studio in late 2024 and are preparing for a new chapter together. “Thank you to everyone who kept the music alive while we were away. We couldn’t feel more honoured to do what we do and can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.”
