ISLAMABAD:

The spillways of Tarbela Dam were opened on Saturday evening — a release that increased water outflow in the Indus River to 250,000 cusecs.

In view of the anticipated rise in the Indus River's flow, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), cautioned residents of adjoining areas to avoid water channels and urged them to cooperate with local authorities. People in low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant.

According to a report released on Saturday, 16 people lost their lives and 10 were injured in the past two days due to flooding. Of these deaths, 13 occurred in Punjab, while one each was reported in K-P, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir.

The NDMA further noted that over the past two months, heavy rains and floods have claimed the lives of 831 people and left 1,121 others injured.
