Joe Alwyn made first public appearance in London following Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement.

Joe Alwyn has been seen publicly for the first time since news broke of his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.

The English actor, 34, was photographed in London on Wednesday, August 27, one day after Swift and Kelce shared their engagement with fans. According to images obtained by Backgrid, Alwyn kept a low profile in a striped blue sweater, jeans, and a matching blue cap.

Swift, 35, and Alwyn were first romantically linked in 2017 and dated for more than six years before separating in 2023. On August 26, Swift and Kelce revealed their engagement through an Instagram post featuring images of Kelce’s floral proposal. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned the announcement. Kelce’s father later confirmed that the proposal had taken place two weeks earlier.

Alwyn has previously spoken about moving forward from the highly publicized relationship. In January 2025, he told The Guardian that he had been focusing on work, family, and friends while minimizing public attention. “I’ve done what lots of people in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it,” he said. In a June 2024 interview with The Sunday Times Style Magazine, Alwyn reflected on the breakup, describing the end of their long-term relationship as “a hard thing to navigate.” He also acknowledged the challenge of dealing with such a personal moment under intense public scrutiny.

Although their relationship was largely private, elements of their time together influenced Swift’s songwriting, including tracks on her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.

Alwyn is set to return to the spotlight with several projects, including Hamlet with Riz Ahmed at the Toronto International Film Festival and Hamnet, premiering at the Telluride Film Festival before a November 27 theatrical release.
