The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has initiated the implementation of the National Catastrophe Modeling Project for the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF). The project provides probabilistic risk assessment tools for floods, droughts, heatwaves, storms, tsunamis, landslides, and earthquakes.
According to the SUPARCO spokesperson, the initiative is aimed at supporting Pakistan in disaster preparedness, implementing risk reduction measures, and formulating risk financing strategies.
The spokesperson highlighted that recent developments stress how crucial space-based information is in regards to disaster management.
