Kayla Nicole has shared a reflective message just hours after her former partner, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, announced his engagement to singer Taylor Swift.

The on-air host reposted a clip of actress Tracee Ellis Ross discussing the importance of cultivating joy. “Read about this very concept years ago in a book called Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough,” Nicole wrote on her Instagram Stories on August 26. “I aspire! So so good.”

In the clip, Ross explains: “I think joy is different from happiness. I feel like happiness is something you can get at 7/11, and joy is something you earn and work for and takes practice. I feel like joy has legs. I feel like joy has feet, I feel like joy has roots, I feel like [it] creates space and allows for room for more than just a good day. I think joy is an attitude. I think joy is a perspective, and I think joy is a lens through which I live and look at my life.”

Nicole dated Kelce for five years before their 2022 breakup. Since then, she has spoken about the challenges of navigating life in the public eye after their relationship ended.

“Going through a public breakup, just to be frank, it’s been overwhelming,” she said earlier this year on Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test. She described the “social media battlefield” as “pretty constant and exhausting,” adding that online comments about her former partner’s new relationship often affected her sense of self-worth.

Nicole also noted that being compared to Swift in the media and by fans had been difficult. Despite this, her recent post emphasised a focus on resilience and finding joy moving forward.
