Nelly Furtado made a statement at Manchester Pride on Sunday, August 24, and it had nothing to do with her music. The Canadian singer-songwriter took to the stage wearing a striking oversized white T-shirt that featured a drawn body mapped to her own frame, complete with a cropped tank top, a push-up bra, a denim mini skirt, and a gold heart-shaped belt buckle reading Whoa Nelly. It was a look designed to confront body critics directly, turning the spotlight into an act of self-expression.

The performance came after the 46-year-old went viral earlier this year over online comments about her figure. Rather than responding with words, she allowed her fashion to deliver a message of confidence, resilience, and body acceptance. The choice of outfit was playful but pointed, a reminder that she has never shied away from challenging expectations in her career.

Furtado finished the bold look with fishnet stockings, pink moto gloves, and colourful knee-high boots, reinforcing her flair for statement-making style. The singer, known for hits like Say It Right and Maneater, has been increasingly vocal about body positivity. In January, she shared a bikini post on social media with the message, Have a body neutral 2025, but most importantly, love with every inch of your heart.

In the past, she has also spoken about how photographers in the early 2000s would edit her skin tone and alter her body shape in magazines. Despite that, she credits her longevity in the industry to learning how to assert herself and remain true to her own image.

By choosing to answer body shamers on such a public stage, Furtado reminded her audience that individuality and self-love are her greatest tools. The message was clear: confidence is the most powerful look of all.
