Becky Lynch slammed for making Ozzy Osbourne death joke at WWE show

Becky Lynch sparked outrage after joking about Ozzy Osbourne’s death during WWE RAW in his hometown of Birmingham.

WWE star Becky Lynch is facing backlash after a controversial comment about Ozzy Osbourne during a live WWE RAW event in Birmingham. The show, aired on Netflix on August 25, came just weeks after the legendary Black Sabbath frontman passed away at the age of 76.

Lynch, known for her heel persona in wrestling, is no stranger to pushing boundaries with her words. But many fans believe she crossed a line when she made a joke about Osbourne’s death while trading barbs with fellow wrestler Nikki Bella. Refusing to accept Bella’s challenge in the ring, Lynch told the crowd, “I’m not wrestling in Birmingham. The only good thing that came out of here died a month ago. But in fairness to Ozzy Osbourne, he had the good sense to move to LA, a proper city. Because if I lived in Birmingham, I’d die too.”

The remark was met with boos inside the venue, with many attendees voicing anger at what they felt was a disrespectful jab at one of Birmingham’s most beloved icons. Online, clips of the moment quickly circulated, drawing criticism from fans who accused Lynch of insensitivity so soon after Osbourne’s death.

While Lynch’s heel character is built on provoking strong reactions, even some wrestling fans argued this time she went too far. Social media users flooded X and Reddit threads with posts calling her comments “classless” and “distasteful.” One fan wrote, “Being a heel is one thing, but mocking Ozzy in his own city right after he passed? That’s just cruel.”

Osbourne died on July 22, only two weeks after Black Sabbath played their farewell charity concert at Birmingham’s Villa Park, which also featured acts like Metallica, Slayer, and Guns N’ Roses. For many, the timing of the joke struck a raw nerve, as the city is still grieving the loss of its most famous rock export.

As of now, Lynch has not apologised or clarified her intent, leaving fans divided over whether this was simply an overstep in character or an unforgivable misjudgement.
