Maryland Governor Wes Moore responded after President Donald Trump claimed the governor privately called him the “greatest president of my lifetime.”

Trump made the remarks during a meeting with reporters in the Oval Office on Monday. He said he had encountered Moore at the Army-Navy football game in December and alleged that Moore hugged him, shook his hand, and told him, “You’re the greatest president of my lifetime.”

Trump added that he asked Moore to make the statement publicly, but said he understood why he could not.

Moore quickly replied on social platform X, posting “lol” in response to a video of Trump’s comments. He followed up by writing, “Keep telling yourself that, Mr. President.”

The exchange comes amid an ongoing dispute between the two leaders. Trump has threatened to send National Guard troops into Baltimore, similar to deployments in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Moore has opposed the idea, saying in a recent speech that Trump should “walk our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office.”

On Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Moore should focus on “out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore,” before inviting him to walk the city’s streets.

Moore has countered Trump’s remarks, noting that murder rates have fallen to record lows during his tenure. The two have also clashed over Moore’s military service record, with Moore accusing Trump of trying to deflect attention from the controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files.
