A new documentary titled Searching for Stars Hollow is in production to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Gilmore Girls, the beloved early-2000s series that continues to inspire devotion among fans worldwide.
The feature-length film is set to include in-depth interviews with a wide array of original cast members.
Confirmed participants are Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester), Chad Michael Murray (Tristin Dugray), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim), Sally Struthers (Babette Dell), Liz Torres (Miss Patty), Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim), Rose Abdoo (Gypsy), Kathleen Wilhoite (Liz Danes), Matt Jones (Morgan), and Grant Lee Phillips (the town troubadour).
In addition to cast interviews, the documentary features behind-the-scenes contributions from key creative voices, including director Jamie Babbit, writer-producer Stan Zimmerman, casting directors Jami Rudofsky and Mara Casey, and Gilbert Guys podcast host Kevin T. Porter.
While the documentary draws from an extensive interview archive, over 100 hours of footage, the participation of central characters Lorelai and Rory, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel respectively, remains unconfirmed and continues to fuel discussion among fans.
The documentary aims to explore why Gilmore Girls has maintained its cultural resonance, from its witty writing to the paisley-charmed community of Stars Hollow, and how it became a touchstone for generational fandom.
A Kickstarter campaign will support the finishing touches, and although no release date has been confirmed yet, the documentary is expected to debut later this year
