ISLAMABAD:

In a large-scale anti-encroachment operation, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration, with the support of Islamabad Police, on Sunday reclaimed 210 kanals of government land from illegal occupants at Saidpur Model Village, out of a total of 370 kanals under unlawful possession.

Along a 16-kilometre stretch of GT Road, Tarnol, from Chungi No 26 towards Taxila, 578 illegally constructed buildings were demolished using heavy machinery, while 113 individuals linked to land-grabbing were arrested and booked.

Officials reported that nearly 95 per cent of encroached land along this section of GT Road has now been cleared. Similar operations were carried out from T-Chowk to Rawat, where six kilometres of road were cleared of illegal structures, resulting in the demolition of 191 encroachments, both large and small. At Saidpur Model Village, over 210 kanals of state land have already been recovered.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa remarked that clearing Saidpur of unlawful constructions would allow its development into a leading tourist destination.

Randhawa stressed that the purpose of these drives is to keep Islamabad free from illegal construction and encroachments.

Mohammed Hussain | 2 weeks ago | Reply Too late too little knee jerk reaction of recent massive floods in Saidpur village. The way northern side of Margalla Avenue is being encouraged coupled with trees and mountain cutting next heavy rains will generate boulders flood which will certainly wipeout illegal sector named C12 and with it parts of D-12 will also be damaged. Please do an investigative report on encroachment in Zone 3 and MHNP.
Zahra | 2 weeks ago You re absolutely right. They ve been acting so irrationally first they ignored the illegal constructions and now suddenly they ve realized oh we need to abolish them. How about starting with the basics Stop cutting down trees stop blasting the hills and stop approving new housing societies. This unchecked development is going to be devastating for Islamabad.
