ISLAMABAD:

In a large-scale anti-encroachment operation, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration, with the support of Islamabad Police, on Sunday reclaimed 210 kanals of government land from illegal occupants at Saidpur Model Village, out of a total of 370 kanals under unlawful possession.

Along a 16-kilometre stretch of GT Road, Tarnol, from Chungi No 26 towards Taxila, 578 illegally constructed buildings were demolished using heavy machinery, while 113 individuals linked to land-grabbing were arrested and booked.

Officials reported that nearly 95 per cent of encroached land along this section of GT Road has now been cleared. Similar operations were carried out from T-Chowk to Rawat, where six kilometres of road were cleared of illegal structures, resulting in the demolition of 191 encroachments, both large and small. At Saidpur Model Village, over 210 kanals of state land have already been recovered.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa remarked that clearing Saidpur of unlawful constructions would allow its development into a leading tourist destination.

Randhawa stressed that the purpose of these drives is to keep Islamabad free from illegal construction and encroachments.
