Mobile app launched for commuters, tourists

Allows users to plan journey, check estimated travel times between different locations

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) said on Saturday it has launched a mobile application, allowing commuters to check metro and feeder bus routes in the federal capital.

Key features of the CDA Mobile App include trip planning, which helps users plan their journeys with estimated travel times between different locations.

Citizens can now download the application from the Play Store and Apple App Store.

A meeting was held at CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa regarding the provision of complete information about metro and feeder electric bus routes on Google Maps.

The meeting was attended by Member Administration and Estate Talat Mahmood, Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafiz, representatives of NRTC, and other senior officers.

A detailed briefing was given on the operations of metro and feeder electric buses and measures to further improve modern travel facilities for citizens of Islamabad.

The application also provides tourism guidance by highlighting nearby attractions and points of interest, enabling tourists to access better travel planning information about important locations in Islamabad.

It was further stated that the app serves as an effective tool for promptly delivering public announcements and notifications to users, including route changes and other essential updates.

Through the routes feature, users can access information about all active routes in Islamabad. Integrated data with Google Maps provides route maps and stop details.

CDA is working on additional services, including real-time tracking on Google Maps and activation of mobile wallets. Soon, users will be able to pay fares directly through the app. Work on the fare payment feature is progressing rapidly and will be made operational soon.

The CDA chairman directed that a digital fare payment system should be enabled through QR codes, with compatibility for ATM, Master, Visa, banking apps, Easypaisa, JazzCash, and other options.

The meeting was informed that the complete version of the application is in the final stages of development and will soon be launched for public use.

Chairman Randhawa directed that effective publicity and public awareness campaigns should be launched to provide citizens with complete details of electric buses, routes, stations, and schedules on Google Maps so they can plan their journeys conveniently.

He said CDA is committed to improving the quality of electric bus services to international standards and that more routes will be introduced where passenger demand is higher.

He also directed that the under-construction depot at Zero Point be activated soon so that electric buses can operate across all remaining routes in Islamabad.

The chairman added that buses will be displayed on Google Maps with clear colours and stop details to make route information easier for passengers.

He emphasised that modern transport facilities are among CDA's top priorities, and resources are being utilised to make travel safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly. Randhawa said the initiative will not only provide citizens with convenient and quality travel options but also reduce environmental pollution.
