Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has approved the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2025. He said that the approval of this bill will prove to be an important step in ensuring strict implementation of traffic laws in the province and protection of citizens' lives and properties.
Under the amended bill, strict legal action will be taken against violators of motor vehicle and traffic laws as more conditions have been imposed on the issuance of driving licences, especially for heavy vehicles.
Similarly, pre-licence training course has been made mandatory for obtaining LTV and HTV licences so that drivers can be provided with practical skills and awareness.
The bill has also introduced a demerit point system for drivers. Points will be recorded on the driving licence for violation of traffic laws under the system and if the points reach or exceed the prescribed limit, the licence would be suspended or cancelled.
The governor mentioned that the bill would ensure public safety and strict action against repeat violators.
The bill has been approved under Article 116 of the Constitution and comes into effect immediately, the governor said, adding, this legislation is the need of the hour in view of the increasing number of traffic accidents across the province, including Karachi.
The governor has said that this new legal framework will create discipline among drivers, provide relief to citizens and make travel safer.
