Curfew imposed in parts of Bajaur amid anti-terror operation

The district administration has imposed a curfew in 24 localities of Mamond tehsil, Bajaur tribal district, as part of a targeted operation against terrorists.

According to an official notification issued with the approval of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Home Department, the curfew will remain in force from 5 pm on August 16 until 5 pm on August 21.

The order strictly prohibits residents from stepping out of their homes or moving on the roads during the curfew period. Authorities have warned that individuals violating the restrictions will be held responsible for any untoward incidents.

The areas under Section 144 include Malangi, Suprayi, Dwaogai, Meena Suleman Khel, Khworchai, Chamyar Jor, Zagai, Gat, Agra, Ghandai, Zari, Nakhtar, Mula Killi, Bakro, Gowati, Chamyalon, Larkalan, Barkalan, Ghanam Shah, Chotra, Damadola, Sultan Baig, Inam Khworo, and Naga.

Meanwhile, the army has launched emergency construction work on the Jarr Bridge, which was swept away by recent floods, disconnecting Bajaur from Dir.

Army’s Corps of Engineers units equipped with heavy machinery and technical equipment have been dispatched to Bajaur to install a new bridge. Officials said the work will continue round the clock and is expected to be completed within a few days.

Once the bridge is restored, the critical road link between Bajaur and Dir will be immediately reopened for traffic.
