Country singer Spencer Hatcher’s mother killed in ‘random’ Virginia home invasion
Virginia country singer Spencer Hatcher is grieving after his mother, Holly Hatcher, 62, was fatally stabbed during a "completely random" home invasion in Rockingham County on August 3, according to authorities.
The intruder, 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker of Pikesville, Maryland, broke into the family home carrying a large knife. He attacked Holly inside the house before moving on to her husband, Michael Hatcher, 65. In the ensuing struggle, Michael retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fatally shot Walker in the driveway. Both Holly and the intruder were pronounced dead at the scene, while Michael sustained injuries.
Deputy Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson described the incident as "highly unusual" and "completely random," noting Walker had no known history of violent or criminal behavior. Investigators discovered that Walker had rented a campsite at Endless Caverns days before and purchased a large knife from a nearby Walmart, but had shown no prior signs of danger.
Spencer, the 28-year-old rising star, announced the cancellation of several upcoming performances, writing on social media that the decision was made "due to a monumental loss in our family."
