RAWALPINDI:

A man allegedly killed his father and two sisters over a property dispute in a brutal stabbing spree that began in Islamabad and ended in Rawalpindi, also injuring his three-month-old nephew. Police have arrested the suspect, 27-year-old Muhammad Ali, and recovered the murder weapon.

According to police, the suspect first attacked his family at their home near Taramri Chowk, Islamabad, killing his 70-year-old father, Mahmood Hussain, and 32-year-old sister, Shabnam Ara.

He then locked the house from outside and travelled to Adiala Road, Rawalpindi, where he fatally stabbed his elder sister, 35-year-old Anjum Ara — an employee of a federal government department currently on maternity leave — and injured her infant son, Salar.

Witnesses said Anjum resisted fiercely but was overpowered. The suspect allegedly attempted to kill the baby as well, but the child’s grandparents intervened. In the struggle, the baby sustained a neck injury and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Residents locked the suspect inside the house and called police, preventing him from attacking Anjum’s husband, who had arrived at the scene.

On arrest, the suspect admitted to both murders in Islamabad, prompting coordination between Rawalpindi and federal police. Two separate FIRs will be registered — one at Shehzad Town Police Station in Islamabad and the other at Saddar Beruni Police Station in Rawalpindi.

‘Killings linked to property dispute’

Police said the motive appears to be a long-standing property dispute, as the father reportedly intended to transfer his property to his daughters, causing frequent quarrels. The suspect, unmarried and living with his father, has two other brothers who live separately with their families.

Meanwhile, SSP Investigation Raza Tanveer Supra visited the crime scene on Adiala Road, according to a spokesperson for the Rawalpindi police. SHO Saddar Beruni was also present, he added.

Police received information in the afternoon about a murder in Habib Line, Adiala Road. The SSP Investigation said the local police immediately reached the spot and took the suspect into custody.

According to the SSP, the suspect had killed his sister, Anjum Zahra, and injured his infant nephew with a sharp-edged weapon. During initial interrogation, the suspect revealed that earlier the same day, he had also murdered his father and another sister in Islamabad.

Preliminary investigations suggest the killings were linked to a property dispute. The SSP said evidence was collected from the crime scene while further investigation was underway.
