RAWALPINDI:

Two labourers died after inhaling gas while cleaning a well, while a man suffered severe burns in a gas leak explosion inside a house in separate incidents in the city on Sunday, rescuers and police said.

Rescue 1122 teams transported the deceased, injured, and unconscious victims from both incidents to nearby hospitals.

Rescue and police officials said the first incident took place in New Afzal Town, Chaklala, where two men were cleaning a well about 50–60 feet deep, which also contained 5-6 feet of water. Both lost consciousness due to the accumulation of gas. AF Rescue 1122 teams arrived at the scene, carried out the recovery operation, and pulled the victims out in critical condition before rushing them to hospital.

According to Chaklala SHO Inspector Hameed Kazmi, the deceased were identified as 28-year-old Mumraiz and 19-year-old Kamran Ramzan, both from Mianwali. Despite efforts to save them, both succumbed to the effects of the gas. Their bodies were handed over to their families after legal formalities.
