Sanitation tax collection to begin next month

With the government's sanction now secured, the Municipal Department will commence the formal collection of a Sanitation Tax from residents and shopkeepers as of September.

The levy, intended to generate an estimated Rs 15 billion in its inaugural year, will be set between Rs 200 and Rs 5,000, depending on the category and property size.

From next month, sizeable sanitation tax bills will be issued to households, traders, commercial complexes, and offices.

According to the Punjab Municipal Department, charges will be lower in residential areas and higher in commercial districts. The billing process is to be fully digitalised.
