DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A man was killed and two others critically injured when a pickup truck collided head-on with a trailer near the inter-provincial check post at Boata, close to Fort Munro.

According to eyewitnesses, the pickup — reportedly travelling at high speed — lost control after its brakes failed, crashing into the oncoming trailer.

The collision triggered a loud explosion, and both vehicles caught fire, causing panic among passers-by.

The deceased was identified as Allah Dad, son of Ghulam Muhammad. Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene, extinguished the fire, and provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to a nearby hospital. Officials said both survivors had sustained severe burn injuries and remained in critical condition.

Border Military Police officials said preliminary investigations confirmed brake failure as the likely cause, though a detailed inquiry is under way.

Authorities have vowed to tighten vehicle fitness checks, especially for those operating in hilly terrain.

Residents of the area urged drivers to ensure regular maintenance of brakes and tyres when travelling in mountainous regions.

They also called on the district administration to strictly enforce traffic laws, improve road safety measures and provide better guidance for motorists navigating Fort Munro's winding roads.
