Calvin Harris has surprised fans after posting graphic images of his wife Vick Hope’s placenta being turned into pills, following the birth of their first child.

The DJ and music producer shared a photo carousel on Instagram announcing the arrival of their baby boy, Micah, on July 20. Alongside touching photos of Harris cradling the newborn and Vick’s at-home water birth setup, the post also included a close-up of the placenta, with the umbilical cord shaped into a heart, followed by images of the placenta being dehydrated and encapsulated into pills.

While many fans congratulated the couple, the raw and unexpected imagery drew mixed reactions. Some users criticized the lack of a content warning, with one writing, “A disclaimer about the placenta would’ve been nice,” and another adding, “Wasn’t ready for the fourth slide.” Several others echoed similar sentiments, arguing that such personal moments might be best kept private.

However, many others praised Harris for helping normalize all aspects of childbirth. “Thanks for sharing about the placenta too—it’s important to normalize certain aspects of childbirth,” one commenter wrote. Another user added, “This is incredible to look at really. Mother Nature. Congratulations.”

The placenta, often referred to as the "tree of life," has historically been consumed by some parents who believe it provides health benefits, although scientific consensus remains limited.

By sharing the intimate moments of their birth journey, Harris and Hope have reignited conversation around the boundaries of online sharing and how society views the realities of childbirth. While some were caught off guard, others welcomed the transparency as a refreshing and educational moment.
