ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nilor Station House Officer (SHO) and Adiala Jail superintendent after the relatives of two men moved the court to challenge their illegal abduction.

Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi issued notices to Islamabad IGP Bani Amin, Nilor SHO Tanveer Abbasi, and Adiala Jail Superintendent Mohsin Rafique Chaudhry, seeking their replies within two weeks.

The petitioner, Muhammad Usman, a relative of Abdul Rauf and Muhammad Nadeem, filed a writ petition challenging their arrest by the Islamabad police on August 13, 2011 for their alleged involvement in terrorist activities.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Waqas Malik, maintained that one of his clients went missing on July 4, 2011, while the other was picked up on June 27,2011 from Rawalpindi, and separate First Information Reports (FIR) were later registered against them in Sadiqabad Police Station.

He informed that court on August 14, 2011 that their relatives came to know that both are in Adiala Jail after the police claimed that they had recovered hand grenades, pistols, and other materials from their possession.

He argued that his clients are innocent and are not involved in any terrorist activities. He said that police had falsely arrested them in this case, making their abduction is illegal and against the law.

He prayed to the court to declare their abduction null-and-void and issue orders for their release.
