Max Verstappen has put an end to speculation about his Formula 1 future, confirming he will stay with Red Bull for the 2026 season.

The reigning four-time world champion, who has been under contract with the team until 2028, addressed ongoing rumours about potential moves to Mercedes and other teams during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

"I’ve never really said anything about it because I was just focused on talking to the team about how we can improve our performance, future ideas for next year as well. And that’s why I have nothing really to add ever," Verstappen said. "But yeah, it’s time to stop all the rumours. For me, it’s always been quite clear that I was staying anyway."

Verstappen's statement clarifies that the uncertainty surrounding his future had been overstated.

The Dutch driver explained that the Red Bull team was always confident in his commitment, as discussions regarding car improvements and future plans continued throughout the season.

While this confirmation eliminates any further speculation about Verstappen's move, it also impacts the dynamics at Mercedes.

With Verstappen staying at Red Bull, drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli at Mercedes are expected to remain in place for the upcoming season.

Russell, who had anticipated Verstappen’s decision, expressed that he is "not in a hurry" to sign a new contract with Mercedes but highlighted the importance of a solid agreement with the team.

"Whenever we come to an agreement we will get it done but it has to work for both of us," Russell explained. He noted the unique situation at Mercedes, with his management also overseeing his contract, adding complexity to the negotiation process.

Russell emphasised his confidence in the team's support, despite the ongoing uncertainties, and expressed a desire to take the upcoming summer break to reflect on his position before making any further decisions regarding his contract.

As Verstappen continues his journey with Red Bull, the Hungarian Grand Prix will serve as another stage in his battle for a fifth world championship, with rival teams eyeing the strategic shifts that could shape the rest of the season.
