The science fiction dramedy Resident Alien will officially end with its fourth season, as confirmed by USA Network and first reported by TV Insider.
The show, which initially premiered on Syfy in January 2021, stars Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial who assumes the identity of Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle after crash-landing in the small town of Patience, Colorado. The final three episodes of the series are scheduled to air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA, concluding with the series finale on August 8. Episodes will also be available on Peacock the following week.
Showrunner and series creator Chris Sheridan acknowledged that he was aware Season 4 would likely be the show’s last, which allowed the creative team to focus on delivering a satisfying conclusion. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending,” Sheridan told TV Insider. “I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”
Based on the comic book by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien has earned praise for its blend of sci-fi and heartfelt humor. Over its run, the series has chronicled Harry’s evolution from a cold-blooded alien on a mission to exterminate humanity into a quirky but sympathetic figure with growing emotional ties to his human neighbors.
The ensemble cast includes Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson. While the show is concluding, Sheridan noted that the finale leaves the door “cracked open” for possible future stories in the Resident Alien universe.
