
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday announced that the Punjab government is taking strict action against the illegal transplantation of human organs.
He made the statement while chairing the 35th meeting of the Monitoring Authority of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA), held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education.
The meeting reviewed and approved multiple agendas related to organ transplantation and institutional regulation.
Key approvals included the registration and renewal of various public and private hospitals for kidney, liver, and cornea transplants.
Institutions granted renewal or new registration include Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Memorial Trust Orchard Hospital (liver transplantation), Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, Independent University Hospital Faisalabad, and Madina Teaching Hospital Faisalabad (corneal transplantation), as well as City Hospital Multan, PKLI and Research Center Lahore, National Hospital and Medical Center Lahore, and Adil Hospital Lahore (renal transplantation).
The Authority also approved PHOTA's revised budget for FY 2024-25 and the budget estimate for FY 2025-26.
