Bernice King speaks out after Trump Administration declassifies MLK Jr. files

Bernice King offered a stern response to the Trump administration following its release of newly declassified records related to the FBI’s surveillance of her father, Martin Luther King Jr.
On the same day the files were made public, she directed attention to another unresolved matter by posting on X, “Now, do the Epstein files.”

The comment, brief yet forceful, signalled a demand for equal transparency from the administration regarding its handling of documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his high-profile connections, including ties to political figures.
The White House did not immediately comment. When asked about the issue, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The president has said if the Department of Justice and the FBI want to move forward with releasing any further credible evidence, they should do so. As to why they have or have not or will, you should ask the FBI.”
She also noted that Attorney General Pam Bondi held ultimate responsibility.
Earlier in the month, the FBI and DOJ drew criticism for their decision not to release additional Epstein-related material. The lack of disclosure prompted frustration across political lines, with critics questioning the reasons behind the continued secrecy.
Bernice King’s call adds to ongoing pressure for the government to be consistent in its transparency, especially in cases involving national trust.
