K-P pushes monsoon readiness drive

A high-level meeting on governance and disaster preparedness was held in Peshawar, chaired by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary, Shahab Ali Shah, to assess the province's readiness for the monsoon season.

During the meeting, officials provided a comprehensive briefing on preemptive measures to mitigate the impact of potential floods.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the Chief Secretary stated that demarcation of riverbanks is a critical step and must be implemented without delay.

He directed that all leaves of administrative and departmental officials in flood-prone areas be cancelled to ensure maximum readiness.

He further instructed all relevant departments to maintain seamless coordination for a swift response in the event of any emergency.

The office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner was directed to remain on high alert for immediate first-response operations.

Addressing ongoing anti-encroachment efforts, the Chief Secretary directed the Revenue and Irrigation Departments to continue their operations based on official land records, ensuring that no individual's legal rights are infringed. He also stressed the urgent need for clearing drainage systems in urban centers to prevent urban flooding.
