Four die of suffocation

Three fall unconscious while trying to drain rainwater from tube well

OKARA:

At least four people were killed in the rural area of Lai Wala near Okara and three others fell unconscious due to suffocation caused by lack of oxygen in a tube well shaft.

The victims were attempting to remove rainwater from the well.

According to local sources, the incident took place on agricultural land where the tube well had been installed. Initially, three men descended into the well to drain out rainwater but lost consciousness due to oxygen deprivation.

In an attempt to rescue them, four more men entered the well.

Four of the victims suffocated to death on the spot.

Emergency service personnel arrived at the scene along with Tehsildar Zaheer Ahmed and his field staff from Renala Khurd.

The rescue teams recovered the bodies and rescued the unconscious victims from the well. The unconscious victims were rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Renala Khurd where their condition was stated to be critical.

The incident plunging the village of the victims into mourning.
