The Sindh Information Department has announced key reforms to strengthen the Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners.
In a meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, it was decided to include women journalists in the commission and seek cabinet approval to empower it with authority to act against non-compliant officials.
During the meeting, members raised concerns over officials ignoring commission letters and stressed the need for legal amendments. Sharjeel Memon directed the chairman to draft the amendment bill, which he pledged to present in the provincial assembly. He reiterated the government's commitment to journalist protection, urging media owners to provide life insurance and training, and to submit employee data for policy development.
