Contaminated drinks and ice products being sold in the city and nearby towns endanger the health of children consuming them.
According to local residents, unregistered companies secretly produce various drinks and ice cream using harmful substances. In Vehari and nearby areas, it is common for unregistered companies to produce and sell beverages, ice cream, butter, and other items using unhealthy ingredients and contaminated water through machinery, a citizens said.
Due to unemployment, people from villages have also associated in this business, selling the hazardous products made in urban areas in towns and residential neighbourhoods.
Health experts say the use of such harmful ingredients increases the risk of diabetes and hepatitis among young people, while many elderly individuals are already suffering from these diseases.
Local sources said the products are made with low-quality sweeteners instead of sugar for reducing production costs.
The sale of unsafe drinks is widespread across various roads in Vehari. Toxic colours are also used in the production process to make the drinks attractive.
During the summer season, both children and adults consume the clod items enthusiastically.
