
Intermittent heavy rainfall in several parts of Punjab has brought much-needed relief from persistent heat and humidity, while also triggering urban flooding and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.
Overnight and early morning downpours were reported in various neighbourhoods, including Jail Road, Kalma Chowk, Anarkali, Ferozepur Road, Bhati Gate, Model Town, Green Town, Township, Johar Town, Cantt, DHA and Thokar Niaz Beg.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that monsoon currents, combined with a westerly wave, are active in upper and central regions of the country.
The department recorded 70mm of rainfall at Lahore Airport and 52mm in the city centre over the past 24 hours.
Other notable measurements included 61mm in Saidpur, 51mm in Khanewal and 44mm in Sahiwal.
The highest temperature was 41°C in Bahawalpur, while Murree reported the lowest of 13.5°C.
The PMD forecast continued rain, wind and thundershowers through the weekend in most of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Sargodha, as well as Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Electrocution
A child was electrocuted while bathing in rainwater near Loha Market.
According to emergency services, the unidentified child came into contact with electric current while bathing in accumulated rainwater in the area.
