On July 9, rapper Nicki Minaj posted a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking fans to help her choose between streaming platforms Kick and Twitch. The majority favored Twitch, but streamer Adin Ross responded during a livestream, urging her to reconsider.
“Nicki, come to Kick,” Ross said, noting that the platform already hosts stars like Drake. “You like to speak your mind — you’re a queen. Twitch is gonna silence you.” He added that if Minaj discussed figures like Jay-Z, she could face potential bans on Twitch, whereas Kick would offer more creative freedom.
Minaj recently made headlines after referencing Roc Nation and its CEO Desiree Perez in a tweet. Her post followed media reports about a lawsuit filed in April 2024 by Emilio Garcia, Megan Thee Stallion’s former cameraman. The suit, which includes claims of discrimination, sexual misconduct, and retaliation, names both Roc Nation and Megan as defendants. Minaj shared a screenshot of a news article about the case, captioned, “Karma’s law,” hinting at her support for the plaintiff.
Ross suggested that Minaj's outspoken views might not align with Twitch’s moderation policies. “Talking about Jay-Z and that stuff? That won’t fly on Twitch,” he said. “If you want to talk your truth and do your thing, Kick is where you belong.”
Kick, a growing competitor to Twitch, has positioned itself as a platform that supports freer expression, drawing in creators who’ve faced content restrictions elsewhere.
As controversy continues surrounding Roc Nation and Twitch’s community guidelines, Minaj’s choice of platform could shape her future digital presence — and potentially influence other artists navigating similar decisions.
