Sophie Turner is looking back on her formative years spent on the set of Game of Thrones, and she says the experience was far more educational than most might guess.

During an appearance on the Dish podcast, the 29-year-old actress joked that the HBO series served as an unconventional sex education course during her teen years. “I definitely got my sex education from that show. More, more than enough,” Turner laughed, referencing the show’s famously graphic and often controversial intimate scenes.

Turner began portraying Sansa Stark at just 14 and continued in the role through the end of the series, wrapping at 23. Though she’s never actually watched the full show, largely because she doesn’t enjoy seeing herself on screen, she said the experience on set was invaluable. “Everything I learned from Game of Thrones, and a bit from my parents, informed my entire life,” she told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett.

She credits the series for teaching her how to behave professionally, make sound business choices, and hold her own on set. Turner also called it the ‘best acting class’ she could’ve asked for, learning directly from industry heavyweights like Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Kit Harington. “We all were a family,” she added.

Reflecting on her deep connection to Sansa, Turner said, “My character, I got to live with. It felt like we merged into one person.”

While she hasn’t ruled out returning to the role, she said it would only happen if the original cast and crew reunited. For now, Turner is preparing for her next role in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series Steal.
