Ariana Madix, host of Love Island USA, has urged viewers to stop sending hateful comments about Islanders on social media during the show’s seventh season.
Speaking on Aftersun, Madix addressed the negative online behaviour that some Islanders have faced following episodes of the Peacock reality series.
She said, “I love the passion of the audience, but sometimes it’s like, ‘Give them a second to resolve their argument before you just hop online and start being absolutely atrocious to these Islanders.’”
Madix continued, “It blows my mind that again I have to say not to harass them on the internet. And I don’t understand why week after week we have to keep saying, ‘Don’t do that.’”
As tensions continue in Season 7, Love Island USA has seen increased attention from viewers, especially during the Casa Amor episodes.
The show previously issued a reminder to viewers to “be kind and spread the love” rather than negativity online.
Having been part of Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules, Madix is familiar with the level of scrutiny reality television personalities receive from viewers, particularly on social media.
Recently, Islander Cierra Ortega was removed from the villa after a resurfaced social media post showed her using a racial slur. Earlier on, Yulissa Escobar was also removed from the show for similar reasons.
Following her removal, Ortega’s parents asked viewers to show compassion, stating, “No one deserves that kind of hate.”
The call from Madix and the show’s team comes as Love Island USA continues to experience high engagement from viewers, with the series setting a fan voting record during Season 7.
