Director Jamie Lloyd has revealed his desire to transfer the hit West End revival of Evita to Broadway as early as 2026, bypassing a previously considered 2027 timeline. Lloyd told Deadline that he’s eager to act on the show's current momentum, following its electrifying run at the London Palladium starring Rachel Zegler in the title role.

Lyricist Tim Rice supports the fast-track move, noting, “We’re not getting any younger,” as he emphasized the urgency to bring the show to New York audiences. Producer Michael Harrison and Lloyd’s team are already scouting potential Broadway theaters, though logistics such as road closures and sound limitations for the show’s iconic balcony scene—performed live to crowds on the street—still need resolution.

In addition to critical acclaim, the production has drawn widespread public attention. The Act 2 moment where Zegler sings “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from the Palladium balcony to a live crowd has become a cultural flashpoint, elevating the show to must-see status in London. Lloyd emphasized the creative importance of the scene, calling it integral to the story’s emotional arc.

Zegler, who received high praise from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rice, expressed excitement about potentially reprising the role in her hometown. “To do anything where you’re from is a real gift,” she said. The show’s cast—including Diego Andres Rodriguez as Che and James Olivas as Juan Perón—has been lauded for infusing youthful energy into the classic musical.

As buzz builds around a Broadway run, Evita is drawing new, younger audiences into the theater. With Zegler’s rising star power and Lloyd’s visionary staging, this revival is shaping up to be a defining moment for both the production and the performers.
