Liam Gallagher has issued a public apology following intense backlash over a racially offensive tweet posted ahead of Oasis’s upcoming concert in Seoul. The controversy erupted on July 1, when Gallagher tweeted the slur “Ching-Chaeng-Chong,” a phrase widely condemned for mocking East Asian speech and features. Though the tweet was deleted shortly after it went live, screenshots rapidly spread across social media, triggering global criticism.

The backlash was particularly strong among fans in South Korea, where Oasis is scheduled to perform as part of their worldwide reunion tour. With thousands expected to fill Goyang Stadium, the remark cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory event. Many fans demanded accountability, with some threatening to boycott the show unless a formal apology was made.

Gallagher has now broken his silence, taking to X (formerly Twitter) again to say:
“Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x.”

While the apology has received mixed reactions, some fans have welcomed the gesture, calling it a step in the right direction. Others argue the apology lacks sincerity, noting the vague wording and absence of direct acknowledgment of the harm caused.

As of now, no additional comments have been made by Gallagher’s team. Whether the apology will be enough to smooth things over before the Seoul concert remains to be seen — but for many, the incident has already left a lasting impression.
