On June 26, 2025, Disney confirmed that a sequel to its live-action Lilo & Stitch is in development. The announcement was made via Disney Studios’ official Instagram account with a short video featuring the character Stitch driving through the Walt Disney Studios lot.
The video showed Stitch creating tire marks that formed the words “Lilo and Stitch 2.” The date of the reveal corresponded with “626 Day,” a fan-recognized celebration of Stitch’s experiment number, 626.
The original live-action film, released on May 23, 2025, performed strongly at the box office. It recorded an estimated $183 million domestically and $341 million globally during its opening weekend, with total global earnings exceeding $914 million to date. These figures make it one of Disney’s most commercially successful live-action adaptations in recent years.
Details regarding the sequel’s plot, cast, and release timeline have not yet been disclosed by Disney. It is also unclear whether the original director and writing team will return.
Speculation among fans includes potential storylines inspired by earlier animated sequels or expansion of side characters introduced in the animated universe.
The first live-action adaptation starred Maia Kealoha as Lilo and featured Chris Sanders reprising his role as the voice of Stitch. The supporting cast included Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit, Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen, and Zach Galifianakis.
Disney has not released a projected release date for the sequel but has confirmed that the film is in early development. More details are expected to be shared as production progresses.
